Who cares about books today? Only few persons still reeds books by the old paper medium! I am exaggerating here, but it is true that the way that people inhale stories is different today. It starts with pads, go on movies and arrive to games and interactive story where people can play a role. The new forms of narratives gives you choices. However this is always the same information, but it can be deconstructed, non-linear and can be rearrange about the way the player make his participation in the story. There is many kind of digital storytelling such as, interactive stories, hypertexts, narrative computer games, web-based stories and so on. For myself I chose to do a web-based narrative that tell the story of a girl who is kidnapped by a serial killer that continues his murder and the goal is to rescue the girl. This is a kind of usual famous story heard really often, but by new technologies, it refreshes that tale to new horizons.
The project will be constructed between a kind of murder and mystery and a story where you are the hero so the role of the viewer in this narrative is a detective who's searching for the killer. It will be a puzzle on each web pages. Sometimes, the player will have to choose between two ways that will influence all the rest of the game. The interactive will includes to click on images, sometimes have to decrypt something in a text to put an answer in a text box, choose between two answer by radio box, listen a video or a sound and answer a question, or by success a little game.
The form will be pretty dark with blood and weird images. The content will be text about old murders, explicit lyrics, cryptographies and dark videos and sounds. The relationship between the form and the content will improve the atmosphere but will help answer puzzles too such as for clicking on images and texts about.
The technology that I will use to implement this work will really create its narrative because without it, it will be only a story straightforward, but by those technologies, the player will really take part of the story, he will play a role, he will be the character of the detective and he will choose the way he will finish the story, by a good or a bad way, this is his choice so without technologies, he would be only the listener. The interactive story will be gradating so more the player will solve puzzles, more the atmosphere will go darker. If he choose the right way, the end will be good and he will win the rescue of the victim. If he goes the wrong way he will loose his "life".
By making a dark project I want to create emotions. Solving puzzles is good for the brain and make it in an atmosphere of heaviness meanings creates a more challenging experience. I hope you will enjoy it!
